Sointu engraving. Sointu was a speaker project where I was mainly responsible for CNC machining, but my knowledge of form pressing heat formable plywood came in handy aswell. The lead designer of the project was Pasi Turpeinen.

A CNC manufacutred K-joint based on a new finger joint created by professor Tuomo Poutanen (Tampere university of technology). The Joint consists of three components being the female body, the male body and a third part featuring both the female and the male body.
The joint was tested as a part of a prject run by Kouvola Innovation. The adult students of Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences designed furniture pieces around Poutanen's finger joint and I carried out the machining of the joints.
The goal of the finger joint project was to determine whether this specific finger joint type is useable in industrial manufacturing of furnitures. The joint requires a massive amount of routing, machining, testing and adjusting due to which it becomes quite an expensive joint. Thus is not a particulary useable joint for the furniture industry.
