DESMA 25 Typography: Expressive Word Based on the famous artist who invented the Gill Sans font, Eric Gill, I researched his religious life. He is well-known to be a devote Catholic, but his religious ideals are more complicated. Gill was raised as a Methodist and after learning the corruptions of the church, he broke away from religion.

DESMA 25 Typography: Eric Gill's Holy Bible (Printed) After doing extensive research on Eric Gill, I created a book about Eric Gill's religious views and how they are portrayed in his artwork. He was raised as a Methodist and after breaking away from the Church of England, he "invented" his own religion; this new religion was similar to the existing Catholic religion. As a Catholic artist, he was commissioned to produce the Stations of the Cross in the Westminster Church. Scholars believe the stoic and emotionless facial features of Jesus are meant for the viewers to find their inner faith. Using Eric Gill's "Autobiography", "Letters of Eric Gill" and passages from the bible, I was able to make this correlation.
