Book Typography
This project was created in a typography class at Illinois State University in October of 2009. These are two selected pieces from a similar exercise of designing book pages using passages from Songs and Sonnets by William Shakespeare and Book of Revelation from the New Testament. I used old-style typefaces to enhance the content, and felt they were appropriate for the content. Especially with type, I think form follows function, and the type used shouldn't distract the viewer, only act to bring the content to life. I used type variants that were appropriate to the style, so I implemented small caps and italics to separate different content. Additionally, to find the right point size and leading, I printed multiple copies to view the physical page to better view and manipulate the type. Each piece was made using Adobe InDesign CS3.
