Reinventing the Børge Mogensen Spokeback sofa
For this project my aim was to recreate Børge Mogensen's famous Spokeback sofa with a few modern twists. My parents have a couple of Spokebacks and I have always admired their simplicity, plus how they seem to fit every room. However, I have often been slightly annoyed at the double support for the backrest; changing this characteristic was the main aim of this project.
Instead of a double leather strap attached to the backrest and a vertical cantilever on the outside of the sofa, this design uses a notched and curved steel rod, a hardwood plank and a ratcheting mechanism to achieve adjustability.
