Koning and Eizenberg - Koning and Eizenberg consistently show that you don't need a massive budget to create good architecture. They create buildings that are full of color and life AND fulfill the needs of the users.

Herzog and de Meuron - This partnership's use of pattern is amazing! I love how they have translated 2D patterns into 3D formations on several projects (Bond Street, de Young Museum, etc.). The shapes that they create are always daring; they inspire me to take risks in my design work.

Frank Lloyd Wright - While FLW has become the cliche "favorite architect", I cannot help but admire his attention to detail. My favorite example of this is at the Robie House, where he custom-fabricated bricks and mortar so that the half-wall surrounding the house would appear as a longer, linear piece to emphasize the 'prairie style'.

Julie Snow Architects - I stumbled upon this firm while doing a precedent study on the Humboldt Mill for my thesis project. Snow's adaption of an old mill building into a mixed-use project is beautifully done, as is the rest of her firm's work.

Allied Works Architects - Allied Works, a Portland-based firm, is, I believe, updating the 'northwest' style. They usually use a simple palette of materials (my favorite being wood, concrete and glass), but make it look incredibly rich.

Charles and Ray Eames - Like the other Case Study House architects, Charles and Ray Eames worked with a "kit of parts" to create homes for the everyday man. They demonstrated that good architecture is for everyone, not just the wealthy. Their designs are still iconic today.
