Evaluation Tracker, v1 The first version of the evaluation tracker evolved as a visual representation of the evaluation process. Several designs were explored, shared with business, and run through student focus groups. Additionally, functionality would be fairly basic to begin with. Student’s see they’ve started their submission, submitted it, it’s in evaluation being graded, and it’s been returned. The intention is as data is collected and we can provide better estimations for the time of completion, we will add in those enhancements. Student response to the first release of the tracker was great. They want to see the progress and to know things are moving forward. Follow up focus groups were done to hear the feedback from students who had the opportunity to experience the new tracker. In general, students were happy to have this quick visual check. They liked the points in the evaluation processed that were highlighted in the tracker.
Evaluation Tracker, v2 Though the first release was well received, the product team started to get some enhancement requests to make the tracker even better. Requests to make it clearer that the assessment task was returned, but needed further work began to come forward. I did some design exploration to see if we could add a simple graphical change to make it more obvious that the student would need to revise their task submission. A final variation was agreed upon after review of the UX team and business stakeholders. Our Assessments Service team reported back that the enhancement did result in lower calls volumes in regards to the status of their submissions and grading.

Evaluation Tracker

One of the “problems” with Taskstream was a view of where the student’s submission was in the wait queue. Student’s would “stalk” the website to see where they were in the queue, make sure they were moving, and know their submission was picked up by the evaluation team. The problem with this queue status was that it was not a true reflection of what was really going on. The place in the queue did not take into consideration how many evaluators were actually able to grade the submission, how many similar submissions are in the queue, hours available by evaluation team to pick up a submission, etc. Initially, any sort of queue status was not included in the release of EMA in the student UI. But experienced students did express how they missed knowing where their submission was. So we moved forward with the concept of an evaluation tracker.
