Precision Balance Redesign

In a senior design studio, my three-man team redesigned Mettler-Toledo’s “Excellence” precision balances to improve efficiency across the wide variety of environments and applications in which they are used. After visiting a messy aquatic laboratory, a hazardous biomedical laboratory, and a pristine food manufacturer, we individually identified key workflow opportunities and combined the strongest solutions into one concept. That concept was revised with the input of Mettler-Toledo project managers and usability testing. The final design features:
an improved manual leveling experience with an auto-level option, an incorporated interface and hand holds for portability, an elevated, angular profile for market differentiation, and a reduced footprint for precious real estate in the lab.
