Glide - An All-Inclusive Bar - This is a project I worked on with a team of two other students.
Design Guidelines - We wanted to design for anyone to be able to use the bar; from both the customer's and bartender's perspective.
Research - In our ethnographic research, we visited bars and examine the way bartenders use their workstations. They move a lot. Up, down, leaning, using both hands to pour drinks.
Concept Development - We focused on arranging the elements of the bar to be in more easy-to-reach locations. Nothing is ever stored above the bar Multiple counter-heights exist to allow for users of different heights. Dump sinks are integrated with the bar instead of being stowed away at either end. The movement along the bar will be constrained to a single axis of movement to make it more efficient.
Building our bar! - The unique part of this project is that we actually built our bar at full-scale! Over the course of eight days, my two groupmates and I build our 24-foot long bar!
Bar Party - Of course, at the end of the build, we had a fundraising party to help recoup the expense of construction.
