This is a schedule poster for the Rhode
Island Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2010 –
2011 season. I was first given an unorganized
sheet of information and had
to determine the hierarchical structure
from that. I explored the multiple levels
of information to create a cohesive
and easily understood schedule. My
idea was to make younger people feel
curious and interested in the Orchestra.
I thought of synchronization as a
concept, as in synchronizing modern
culture and the Orchestra. Once the
hierarchy and concept were resolved,
I then explored simple form and how
to relate it to my concept and type
structure. I pulled the image structure
from the lines on a music sheet, and
turned the whole structure and grid
on an angle to make it more dynamic
+ modern and to draw the viewers
into the piece. I varied the weights and
endings of each line to reinforce the
rhythm of music.
