2012 Museum of Science Catalogue

This piece is a course catalogue for the
Museum of Science. The main mission
of the museum is to stimulate interest
and further understanding of science
and technology. I wanted to reinforce
this with the concept of science is
magnetic, portraying the idea that
science can be for everyone. I chose a
long horizontal structure to reinforce
magnetism and the two poles that all
magnets have. The spreads are coming
together as two opposite poles would
attract one another. The concept is
also reinforced through the magnetic
lines of force on every page that
slowly lead the viewer into the center
of the catalogue and then back out.
The type on the left page is flush right
and the type on the right page is flush
left, which also helps reinforce this
idea of magnetism because it’s almost
as if the spreads are attracting each
other. I chose a steel-blue color, again
to relate it back to magnets; the color
is subtle enough to let the magnetic
lines and type structure speak
for themselves.
