The Strad > Masthead [re-designed] - The masthead was re-designed using the existing font (for familiarity and continuity). The treatment and typography was altered to create a fresher more 'classical' feel.
The Strad > Cover [re-designed] - The 'big idea' is of 'player/maker/teacher' as icon. Visually this is emphasised by the square format of the photography and the use of the 'icons' name only (instead of a title for the story). Other features and offers are shown above the masthead for a sense of hierarchy. The coloured band separating the top 'white space' from the photo extends to the spine making it easier to distinguish each issue (by colour coding).
The Strad > Cover feature [re-design] - The opening pages of the features are approached like a poster; dramatic photography, elegant typography and deliberate use of white space. I designed a special typeface (Virtuoso) for the drop cap to bring a lavish hand-crafted feel to the page.
The Strad > Virtuoso [drop cap] - Viruoso is a bespoke element of the re-design. A font to be used only as a drop cap for features.
The Strad > Editorial section 1 - Editorial sections focus on subjects of a practical nature and therefore needed to be clear and accessible without sanitising the brand.
The Strad > Editorial section 2 - Editorial sections focus on subjects of a practical nature and therefore needed to be clear and accessible without sanitising the brand.
