110ft alternative sailing catamaran, Orbis - The brief solution is a design for a super yacht catamaran “Orbis”. The wind powered vessel is 110ft (33.4m) long, and has a large beam at 52.5ft (16m).
Unlike conventional rigs, this sail set up requires two side by side masts at each side of the catamaran. A large “wing” sail is suspended between these freestanding masts.
The resultant lift force from the sail has a large vertical lift component, along with a reduced heeling force component.
