Facade Study for Chinatown Plaza

This facade study began as a material exploration with copper mesh. I was fascinated by the moiré effect that occurred with layering and the differences in opacity when viewed in different ways. Placing folded sections of mesh inside units of frosted glass created mysterious and intriguing perceptions of space with shifting shadows and transparencies.

The facade is related to the "Red Island Plaza" project in that it is not intended to be seen and understood all at once, and must
instead be explored and discovered. This exploration involves both inhabiting the facade or walking past it, and revisiting it at different times to see how it changes.

Ideas from this exploration carry directly through to the "Wonderblock Bookstore and Toy Store" project
