Karalyn Wysocki is a textile artist, patternmaker, and seamstress with a BFA in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She obtained a certification in patternmaking from the San Francisco Apparel Arts School of Patternmaking and Design in 2010. She worked teaching sewing classes and doing sewing contracting jobs in New Orleans before moving on to Savannah in 2014. At SCAD she has focused on surface design, and honing her skills as a screen printer. In the future she hopes to pursue a career in education.
Karalyn became a maker because she was lucky enough to learn from my grandmothers, and being able to use her hands as her voice has enabled her to tell a story within her work. What she makes is a translation of observation and memory into tangible surfaces. Through her process, she explores the relationships that can be drawn between nature and culture, investigate the meaning of home and heritage, and dig deeper into the light and dark aspects of what makes us human. She sifts through history and fragments of memory, attempting to evoke an awareness of the passage of time and a sense of place.
