POP kiosk - Manufacturing cost and low volume were large concerns with this project. At only 1000 production units being projected, the design was limited to parts that required no special tooling and low intensity of start up labor. A sheet metal solution was chosen for ease of assembly, durability, and the richness inherent in the natural material.
Online security device - Sometimes simple projects can be the most challenging. This electronic device required a molded housing and an LED “on” indicator. No other features or functions were required. The solution was an arched form inspired from Gothic architecture. Three lower ribs allow the housing to sit flat, yet creating a dynamic under space.
Online postage system - Mechanical design was the challenge with this compact electronic device. In the space of about 50 cubic inches are housed a thermal label printer, a 4 lb. capacity electronic load cell (scale), security module, label roll, two function buttons and LED indicators. In addition to the space constraints, the load cell then requires an unobstructed top platform and very sturdy metal base support.
e-Book - For this product, used primarily by the blind, ergonomics was the focus. A small key pad is used to scroll up and down through book sections, chapters, and specific verses. Several additional buttons control on/off, volume, and memory functions. Design of this project was explored primarily through foam mock-ups that could be easily evaluated for functionality, tactility, and overall fit and feel.
R/C toy cars - Often a client with their own in-house design and engineering resources may still require additional assistance with product development. These 3-D solid CAD models were created based on client design sketches.
Experimental and prototype motorcycles - The FFE motorcycle (left) was developed to test several new concepts for steering linkage and brake system configuration. The prototype motorcycle (right) was the first of several successful racing motorcycles produced in limited quatities.
