2011_Zen Tea House

Temasek Polytechnic, Diploma in Interior Architecture. Project 2 - the fusion of Japanese and Chinese tea practice.

Growing up, my father and his pals drink tea as a social and interactive way to spend their time. He would travel to places like Taiwan and China to scout for Chinese tea ornaments and leaves. I used to sit and drink tea with him over the television.

The idea of a Zen teahouse is from the peace-loving and quiet yet respectful Japanese culture. This fusion brings together the culture I grew up with and a fresh approach for the customers of the teahouse.

It allows users to fully immerse themselves in a quiet environment surrounded with minimal natural elements such as the elegant bamboo plants and calming effects of flowing water while solely drinking tea.

This make-believe project is set in an Asian heritage 5-foot way shophouse under conservation.
