This pattern is painted with colors on my desaturation scale that have equal value, I also activated the grid by giving weight to the gridlines that were invisible before.
This pattern was painted with colors of equal intensity.
The colors in this pattern demonstrate the illusion of one color appearing as two (the grey/green toned shapes in the strips of green of the pattern are the same color as those in the strip of blue).
The goal of this pattern was to make the the dark green and light green color (juxtaposed on the central grey line) to appear as the same green when the dark is presented on the bright blue and the light on the bright yellow.
This pattern displays a contrast of warm and cool using only the green shades of my desaturation scale.
This pattern is also a demonstration of warm and cool contrast, only it uses colors from both sides of my desaturation scale.
Here are a few of the initial motif ideas I had.

Motif Patterns

The assignment for this project was to create a 3" x 3" motif and repeat it in a grid system in different ways (based on the frieze positions) to create six final patterns. All the pattern generations/ideations were done in illustrator, but the final six were painted on 18” x 18” bristol board with acrylics. I was required to continue using the same parent colors as from the desaturation scale project (in my case blue and yellow) and all the colors were created by mixing cyan, magent, and yellow paints.
