Children's Book

In my second semester, one of the projects was to create a children’s book. I had been assigned Symbolism as an art movement to refer to/reflect on during the semester, so I drew from the symbolists’ beliefs as I wrote and illustrated my story. The story is of a little boy named Oscar who spends all his time playing video games. When his father decides to take Oscar on a camping trip he discovers the great outdoors and learns that spending time in nature can be more fun/exciting than any of his video games.

I drew the illustrations with ink and much of the coloring was done with water color (although probably 40% of the coloring was done digitally and overlayed textures). The final book is made of pages measuring at about 11” x 17”, although some of the scenes have pages that flip out to large 44” x 17” landscapes.
