ASH Chair

The brief for this project was to create a dining room chair that had a distinctly South African feel. This project was requested by Klooftique Furnitures as part of a competition.

The Ash chair, as it came to be known, has been designed with the minimalist style in mind. Inspiration for the design came from the plywood chair by Jasper Morrison. The shape of the chair is very light and easy on the eye. There is no clutter in the design and this is due to the fact that there are no supports between the legs of the chairs. The chair is however very stable as it is made from Ash and Wenge wood. These woods are incredibly strong and lightweight making the chair easy to pick up and move if need be. The African influence on the design can be seen in the patterns seen on the backrest and carrying on onto the seat.

The Ash Chair placed in third position in the Klooftique competition and is now being manufacturered.
