I designed the Iconic Taxi while at ALTe for the design competition “For a New Generation of Purpose Built Taxis in NY City”. It was to be powered by ALTe's gas electric hybrid powertrain. A few important design criteria was established for the passenger and driver plus the vehicles visual impact on its environment. On a relatively small overall foot print I created a significant amount of usable space for the passenger, a separate purpose built driver pod, and easy to use luggage space. For the exterior design it was important to create an iconic shape that would be a lovable symbol of NY City Taxi excellence and stand out among other vehicles. Later the city of Chicago showed interest to ad it to their streets to help them gain a future bid to host the Olympic Games.
