As the first of two major projects in my Illustration Survey class, my assignment was to find a newspaper editorial and create an Op-Ed-style illustration for it. I chose the New York Times editorial, “A Cable Merger Too Far,” which was about the proposed merger of Comcast and Time Warner Cable. With this theme in mind, I ultimately went with a giant pig in a business suit, looking down upon a helpless soul who’s just trying to watch TV, representing the degree of total control that such a massive corporation would have over the content that consumers could access. The illustration was initially sketched out on paper, then scanned and completed in Photoshop CC.
