Flower Chair Concept - Two-stage project: Initially geared towards improving design flaws in an on-the-market for IKEA. After the product's discontinuation, project was salvaged and inspiration taken from its learnings to create a second-gen concept platform, the Flower Chair.
Preliminary Research & Inspiration - Inspiration: IKEA in Baltimore. Remove the boy above and replace him with a curious 20 year old concerned over product safety.
Preliminary Ideation - With a flower being the inspiration foundation of the project, the initial concept consisted of creating pliable petals serving as both a means to: 1. suggest "chair" rather than "stepping stool" 2. create an interactive, productive engagement for children. Scenario: Kid hides himself in the petals or uses the product as a toy bin (make cleaning up fun?)
Project Parameter Changes - After IKEA discontinued the Virrig, the project changed course. Eero Aarnio and additional 60's modernist pieces were key in the next stage of development.
2ndary Ideation - Still in line with the essence of the initial Virrig upgrade ideation, this 2ndary set plays off the period of 1960's furniture considered modernist and spaceage.
