A Midsummer Night'sDream - This poster series is displaying the opening of a performance for A Midsummer NightÕs Dream. The handwritten type and imagery gives this series the expression and voice needed to convey what the play is about. The Shakespeare poster series began with randomized, abstract form studies of hair scrunchies. The idea was to begin a project through experimentation of form without knowing the end result. After the form studies were complete, I applied the forms to a Shakespeare play that best fit. Eventually, the random forms were not scrunchies but images that related to a theme. The theme of A Midsummer NightÕs Dream is whimsical, playful, and dreamy. By backing into this project, I managed to create unexpected results that could not have been planned.
Au Courant - Au Courant is a publication of different journals and prose compiled into a cohesive book. This personally bound publication began with only copy, By creating fitting imagery and a flexible grid I was able to successfully create a flow throughout the book that focusses on both the imagery and the writings in a balanced manor.
Distortion - Distortion is a catalogue publication that displays photography of apples, eggs, and people. The photographs are taken with other materials distorting the objects or displaying the object in a distorted context. A parallel theme of sideshows run through the catalogue as a secondary message asking the question, Òwhat makes us similar or different from others?Ó At the end of the catalogue the photographs are thumb nailed and available for purchase.
Preconceptions - This was a project where I chose to interact with people. I went into a public green space in Downtown Raleigh and decided to comment on the people in that space as well as my experience trying to interact with them. I brought a Polaroid camera and walked up to people and asked them if I could take their picture. Many people said no, but of those who accepted my proposal I discovered how personal a picture was. I took note what these people said and decided to create cards that accurately represented this experience.
SPCA Corporate Identity - The SPCA logo is hand drawn giving it a playful presence. Depending on the type of publication or advertisement the dog or cat logo can be interchanged. The letterhead and business cards are consistent with the playful attitude of the corporations focus on animals, but still maintains a sense of appropriateness. The booklet may be sent out to families and future customers. The imagery throughout the publication is bright and endearing, engaging the reader to either monetarily donate or adopt. The overall goal of this piece is to allow the reader to experience the joy of a pet.
