Coast House
The Coast House: Erosion as Unearthing
Site: Point Loma, San Diego, CA
Design: A collaborative project between myself, Aaron Apillado and Jessie LaFree. This project addressed the fragile and impermanent coastal conditions around the world which are in peril due to rising sea levels and soil erosion. The resulting design looks ahead 50 years and proposes two structures that are designed to be "unearthed" over the years as erosion occurs. The two structures serve as a flexible communal live-work space. One building houses the shared kitchen, living, and office spaces. The second building houses prefab modular pods that can be added as needed to accommodate the rise in urban density. There are four modular pods; a bedroom, closet, restroom and storage.
