CD gramaphone (2007) - designed with Ama. A CDplayer was taken apart, analysed and redesigned. Speakers are put below the loudspeaker for amplification. The wooden box is made more spacious to achieve bass resonance. The laser pointer is shifted to the top to show the spin of the CD By bringing back a familiar nostalgic form of a gramaphone, the design seeks transport the user back to the golden age of sound in early the 1900s.
paperceramics speakers (2007) - Part of the project noise/sound that explores different aspects of our surrounding sound. When the phonograph was invented, scientists talked about how broadcasting will liberate mankind from lonely isolation. It is perhaps an innate need for us to broadcast our views, propagate our beliefs and share our passion. Ceramic is one of the best materials for sound amplification. Thin paper ceramic loudspeakers made from discarded musical scores and clay to propagate and share your music.
letterlight (2007) - Commissioned by d-lab Design Incubation Center to explore the theme "Architecture as Objects, Objects as Architecture", I focused on the solitude city at night. When night falls and activities dwindle, what is left is cold hard space, built to an impersonal scale. Designed to the dimensions of an A4 size paper, aiding you in the writing of a single letter, to a faraway loved one, who may be like you, in a cold hard city. material: corian
cheers to good health (2007) - Part of the project noise/sound that explores different aspects of our surrounding sound. Exploring sound for healing, volumes of water corresponding to the musical notes of E, G# (maj 3) and B (perfect 5th) are marked on the glasses. When cheers together, the glasses produce the the E major chord, allowing you to enjoy the drink in a healthier way.
stairway papertray (2007) - Commissioned by d-lab Design Incubation Center to explore the theme "Architecture as Objects, Objects as Architecture". If architecture envelopes space within, then objects radiate the space around them. I created the papertray to organise a stack of A4 paper in cascading stairway manner. Akin to the spirit of architecture, object design can be spatial design, evoking imagination and emotions, only differing in scale. material: corian (rendering by d-lab)
sound powered light (2007) - part of a project sound / noise that explores our surrounding sound. Exploring using sound as energy. With the growing noise level of our cities, perhaps we can start harnessing all these noise to satisfy our energy needs. The noise is harnessed by the speaker and stepped up to power the LED. The electrical setup may not be the most efficient but seek to demonstrate the potential of sound energy. The lamp was demonstrated at the Design Academy Eindhoven during the exhibition.
a quiet getaway (2007) - part of a project sound / noise that explores our surrounding sound. On our relationship with sound, telephone booths used to be a point of connection for people. In today's society, what we need might not be points of connection anymore, but a point of dis-connection. Taking away the telephone inside, and installing foam walls, the telephone booth is converted into a silent haven, for a quick getaway from the invasive noise around us. No phones in the booth. only silence and you.
skidscooter (2006) - Concept. An amphibious kickscooter. With inbuilt motors and propellers attached to the wheels, Skidscooter runs on land as a normal kick scooter and functions as a propulsion aid in water. Skidscooter functions in very different orientations in each environment providing 2 unique user experiences in one product.
