Specimen is a magazine about typography. The concept behind this spread was to compare the love that Graphic Designers have for type, to the love that one might have for their pet. All photography and design is mine.
Opening spread for the article "Road to Clarity," which is about the changing of the highway font from Highway gothic to Clearview. I took a photographic direction to the article, with the concept of "typeface v. typeface."

End spread for the article "Road to Clarity," which is about the changing of the highway font from Highway gothic to Clearview. I took a photographic direction to the article, with the concept of "typeface v. typeface." In this spread is an example of the final change to the new typeface Clearview.
An article about obsession with typography, containing a special insert booklet with various ways one can be obsessed. The first example talks about the film "Helvetica" and all the hype that followed it, the second talks about forums online in which people discuss their favorite typefaces, the third is about t-shirts people make to proclaim their love for type, and the fourth example contains a page with a letterform on it which you can cut out and fold together to create a "pet letterform."
End-page for Specimen Magazine. The concept for this spread was to have a play on words for the title of the magazine. Just as a biochemist studies and experiments with different specimens, so do designers with different type specimens.
