Lil Wayne, Pen & Marker, 2011 In various pieces, I've incorporated lyrics and quotes of various performing artists to form a portrait of the individual. The ultimate goals of these projects include the unification of words and images to form a likeness of the particular individual, and to portray the character traits of the person. Each portrait uses wording and shading to place emphasis on certain areas of the piece. This artist is especially distinguishable by his unique hair, facial hair, and tattoos. Therefore, I used wording and stippling to bring attention to these areas.

To Be Bigger Then A Tree, Pen & Marker, 2013 This piece served as a gift welcoming a friend's new baby. Because of the nature and intentions of the piece, it was essential to tailer the piece to accommodate a young demographic. Therefore, the undertones of the piece are whimsical, playful, and oriented toward a youthful audience. It was also important to create a balance between the passage and illustration within the piece. This meant creating a composition in which the words and illustrations held equal importance, in which neither aspect overpowers the other.
Mail, Pen & Marker, 2013 The purpose of this piece was to create a freehand sign for a mailbox in an office environment. I choose to take a more graphic approach, using primarily straight lines and no shading.

Ink & Pen Work

These are samples of my work using pen and ink. My ink work tends to embody illustrative qualities and is generally more graphic. I enjoy the union of language and visual art, and thus incorporate words and writings into my pieces. The most essential aspect of my ink work is the lines. My biggest concern is line quality.
