Bizhan Home at ICFF
2000 sq ft.
Drywall, flooring, wallpaper, free-standing furniture.
As conceived at the beginning, the booth

counter tops to delicate and elongated vases full of orchids.

Hard surfacing material, white lacquered panels,

As part of the utmost NYC-style studio this kitchen+office combo was designed to share a barely 400 sq feet space with a storage+sleeping wall unit and a shower+sink freestanding piece. Liberating the kitchen
from its conventional format and, thus, from the confinement of walls was a crucial step to the development of this piece.

FREE STANDING PIECES at ICFF - Reconverted into a five-usable-surfaces element it
became a playful puzzle consisting on interlocking planes and volumes. On one side, the properly said "kitchen" with half-sized dishwasher and fridge, pantry, a 2-burner kitchen top, sink and a more intimate eat-inarea with a pull-out table that fits/feeds 4 people. On the other side, an office plenty of storage -shelves and drawers- and a pull-out working desk (when not being used for eating.)

Hi-polished stainless steel, thermo-colored glass,

This kitchen was designed with the sole purpose of not being used. It is a kitchen
for gathering friends, conversation, prepping-up, posing... definitely not for cooking. A-functional? Aesthetics. It is a kitchen devoted to showing-off.
(I can't help but wonder, can non-functional be a function per se? Are aesthetics a function? Is it a-functional? No, it's a-kitchen.)
