This project formed part of my curriculum for obtaining my Bachelor with Honours in Industrial Design. In my thesis I explored knowledge on the influence of technology on intimacy amongst couples, and investigated the definition of intimacy and its effects on relationships.
The data collected for this research led to the design of the CO.COON, which is a poof for two people covered by a cocoon shaped structure offering an escape from modern day technology and enables couples to reconnect, practice mindfulness and enhance their intimacy levels within the relationship through applying specific rules of communication.
This product has responded to the current trend of increased technology usage that has created feelings of disconnectedness and provided an innovative and thoughtful solution. The CO.COON blends a minimalist style with a handcrafted African touch to it, whilst placing the user in the centre throughout its entire design process.
