The factory township of Birla White Cement, along with expansion of housing required a separate Healthcare Centre for its residents and the employees of the factory.
Incorporating the healthcare into the master plan was based on a critical condition of allowing people from neighbouring villages to use the facility without having to enter the premises of the township. Hence it was placed at the periphery with adjacency with the main road while also maintaining access from within the township.
The program of the Centre was to have a basic in- patient department as well as an outpatient department. The outpatient department is the more populated department with a host of patients visiting the consulting doctors, while in-patient department with low density of patients required to be more quiet. This difference of requirements by the program led to creating a winged building, neatly segregating the program.
