Two different sizes of apartments of over 200 numbers were to be allocated within the existing Birla township.
The challenged posed was to create medium high buildings to fit in within the existing fabric of the site as well as maintain low density on the ground.
The houses were created around courtyards that form community spaces and are constantly being shaded by buildings around it maintaining a cool atmosphere in the extreme heat. At the same time, each unit was provided with its own terrace to create a feeling of open-ness within the unit itself and also act as a buffer space between the outside and the inside, maintaining relatively cooler temperatures in the houses. In winters, this terrace acts as a sunny winter garden.
Each unit on every floor was mirrored to create a play of alternate terraces on the façade. These open terraces were shaded with the use of the locally avail Jodhpur Stone screens with also acted as an elevation feature.
