Baby Carrier with Medical Benefits.
Design development and prototyping of a commercial baby sling, which reduces colic pain and enhances the formation of sleep patterns by holding a baby in a controlled position. The project relies on specialised construction skills in conjunction with knowledge of industrial design, ergonomics, safety standards and manufacturing viability. This presented a number of biomechanical problems specifically enabling functionality between the variables of fit, ergonomics, safety and medical benefits. A number of design issues had to be overcome, difficult to resolve was the weight differential between new-born babies and three month old babies, risk assessments would not allow trials with live infants so models of correct weight were used in tests.
