Open Brief

The Open brief project was in the second term of my first year at university. I chose to design a swimming aid for children aged from 2 to 6 years old. The key aspect of this project was the need to improve their confidence in the water at an early stage.

For this I came up with the Flipper float, which has only two simple parts to the design. There is a board below the users stomach to keep the child on the surface of the water and a fin either side to provide extra support and buoyancy.

I had to consider the shape of my design to allow full comfort whilst the user interacts with the product. I also had to use buoyancy formulas to make sure the product would keep the child on the surface of the water.
