Personal Book - PROBLEM To express a personal change or growth that has occurred in the designer’s life. SOLUTION A book communicating my life with my two fathers: biological and step. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) - PROBLEM Introduce a new government funded program with aims at reducing national participation of illegal street racing activities (racing, spectating, gambling). SOLUTION The mission is to inform the street racing culture of the benefits of legal racing programs, an alternative to street racing. The brochure is distributed by police to offenders of street racing laws. It also appears in stores specializing in: performance parts, wheels and tires, car audio, and cellular phones. Additionally, it is available at the Department of Motor Vehicles. In recognition of their automobile sub-culture, the brochure is designed so it may be stored in the glove compartment or sun visor of a car. image shown: select spread
Smithsonian Institution | Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum - PROBLEM Design an art exhibition and accompanying catalog for the work of Vito Acconci. SOLUTION Focused on Acconci’s controversial performance and body art of the 1970s. The concept was derived from Acconci’s fascination with “the self” and the human mind, or in his words: “depicting psychological relations in spatial terms.” image shown: select spread
Biological Father's Day Cards - PROBLEM I had no relationship with my father since I was three years old (over twenty years). After much internal strife, I felt the need to express these feelings and attitudes directly to my biological father. SOLUTION Adapted underlying layer of previous book into “Biological Father’s Day” cards, and delivered four cards to my father’s doorstep. As a result, I met my biological father and am considering a new relationship with him. image shown: front and inside panel (one of four cards)
Oregon State Parks - PROBLEM The parks were typically being utilized by vacationers and rural residents, but not by urban and suburban dwellers. SOLUTION Encouraging urban/suburban residents to visit the parks by contrasting their everyday environments with the extraordinary features of Oregon State Parks. The saddle-stitched brochure appears in public transportation systems, mall kiosks, movie theaters, publicly funded schools, and businesses. image shown: opening spread
