Illumination - BA (Hons) Architecture Year 1 Design Project Topic : Light This is a roof system designed for a museum hosting 3 very different pieces of work : 1. A series of Terracotta Army 2. Nike of Samorathe Statue 3. Da Vinci's The Last Supper The idea is to manipulate and control sunlight and use it as the only light source during the day. According to the orientation of the building, I have designed a series of reflective panels so that direct sunlight can be reflected to decrease the effects of UV rays on the valuable pieces. The reflections also help lighting up various points in the museum where visitors have the best views to the art pieces. The big openning on the roof is the reflector for The Last Supper. The main reason for using such a large reflector is because the there will be no reflective material on the pannel, hence stop the sunlight from focusing on the painting and damage it. To see more of the roof or the museum itself please contact me.
Glass Wedding Shop - BA (Hons) Architecture Year 1 Design Project Topic : Retail Shop The reason for all the glass used in the shop is to allow for the structure to show, and to create a pure and clean space, symbolising marriage. There are 4 levels to the shop. The ground level includes a drive in area, where the luxury wedding car can drive in to pick up the bride after being dressed. The sand-blasted glass screen prevents any dust or pollution to spread into the shop. The main staircase links the first floor and the main reception area together. The first floor (right side) is a waiting area for the groom. There they will wait for the bride to be brought up stairs to choose their dress. The second floor is the main reception area, which includes the cashier. The main staircase linking the groud floor to the reception is made bigger purposely to slow people down and hence prolong their experience in the shop. The third floor (left) is where the bride will get changed. The platform is made over-hanging, with the edges made imperfectly to give contrast to sharp clean edges in the shop. The bride can stand and over-look the entire shop, and the groom standing on the first floor will be able to get a glimps of his bride. Standing on glass will give an uncomfortable feeling to one's feet, and can also ceate the heart-beating excitement one can get from being married. Therefore, the shop can entirely metaphore the feeling of marriage down to the last detail. To see more of the shop please contact me.
