Set up and procedure of the empirical evaluation study, based on observational data. The two sources for evaluation were 1) notes and interview data from care professionals who know the participants personally and can interpret their behaviour in comparison to their everyday life and 2) filled in instruments of two trained raters using a validated instrument to measure emotion expression.
Film stills from scientifically validated emotion expression set AFDES (van der Schalk et al., 2011) for joy, sadness, pride and embarrassment. This set of videos was used for training prior to the evaluation.
All trials were filmed from different angles to capture the participants from a frontal view. Event based, the videos were cut which resulted in more than 800 video clips, watched and evaluated by two trained raters with an adapted version of HILDE-ES by Kruse et al. (2006).
Recordis is adaptive to the individual in terms of its complexity and effect; some are proud of others’ focussed attention while telling stories. For people who even cannot control their radio at home anymore, it can already be a moment of pride to see the turntable spinning and seeing that they are responsible for letting the music play.
