Line, 2014. A mark made by a moving point. A line has greater length than width. A line directs the eye- horizontal, vertical, diagnal, curvy, zig-zag, etc. A line can be actual obvious lines or the borders or edges of shapes.
Shape, 2014. A contained area. A shape can be geometric (man-made). An example would be a square, triangle, and a circle. It can be organic (natural) such as leaves, humans, and puddles. Shapes are 2-dimensional and flat.
Form, 2014. A contained area. It can be geometric (man-made). Examples could be squares, triangles, and circles. Form can be organic (natural). Examples are leaves, humans, and puddles. Forms are 3- Dimensional with height, depth, and width. An example could be a sphere.
Texture, 2014. Texture has surface quality. Texture is how an object feels, or how it looks like and feels. Texture is rough, smooth, bumpy, gooey, sharp, etc. It adds interest and a sense of sight and sense.
Space, 2014. It is the area used or unused in a composition. It's the positive space/ area the object/subject takes up. It also has negative space around, under, through, and between. Space gives the photo a 3-dimensional feeling (depth). Space has a foreground (closet), middle ground, and background (farthest).
Color, 2014. Color's artistic term is hue. You need light to see color. There is primary, secondary and intermediate colors. We use color schemes to enhance appeal to make an impact.
Value, 2014. Value is black and white and all the gray's in between. Value is dark to light. It can add drama and impact to a composition. It can give a sense of limelessness. You have to train your eye to read color as black and white.
Line, Shape, and Color, 2014. I chose this photo to represent three different elements of art. There are lines represented in the backboard of the basketball hoop. The shape is represented in the rim of the hoop which is circular, and the color in this photo is the sky and orange rim.
