Yoga Mountain, Yoga in the Classroom
I began taking Yoga classes with Gail Bennett Walsh in 1987. Over time, we became great friends. In 1994, Gail founded her own Yoga center, Yoga Mountain concurrent with developing a Graduate College Course for prospective teachers to bring the practice into the classroom. The genesis of this book began with the instruction manual she wrote for these students and Gail asked me to design and create it. As she says on her website, “Yoga in the Classroom was written to give school teachers, administrators and educators the tools to explore yoga with their students”.
Gail Walsh also teaches in elementary schools, firm in her belief that ‘Yoga Breaks’ create a calmer and more inspiring environment for learning, especially for children.
In addition, in her own ongoing work with emotionally and physically disadvantaged children, she has learned that the practice of yoga can be very helpful to them. One section of the book is devoted to this subject.
