Solar Consumer Innovation Design

Challenge: Canadian Solar was looking for the ‘grail’ of solar, a consumer value add product or service to leapfrog ahead of the competition. The constraints were that the solution needed to be solar and of complementary value (unique), as well as appealing to a mainstream market.
Strategy: Together with Continuum Milan, I researched the solar market in Europe (Italy, Germany, UK, and Sweden), defined consumer archetypes related to sustainability, determined a strategy and roadmap for addressing the target segments, and finally generated concepts for value-add consumer products and services.
Results: We developed a 'smart system' concept with additional add-on packs that customers could purchase with their PV system to maximize self-sufficiency.
