The Hand as a Machine
Given the chance to focus a study on the human body I choose to study the hand. The complexity of such a seemingly simple body part intrigued me. I started off with wire modeling of what I saw. Then I simplified that through sketching my findings. Going from there I reconstructed the hand with charcoal and then broke it back down into geometric pieces which i represented with functioning cardboard models. These iterative methods allowed me to fully explore the mechanics of the hand and grasp a better understanding of it.
