Davison_Magazine cover1 This magazine front cover created year 2009 for a class project was created during the first year of president Obama’s 1st. term. My task was to create an imaginary magazine first issue and the 1st. article as editor and owner. At the time I was also experimenting with a wonderful small sub-d polygonal modeler named SILO of Nevercenter. I saw this as an opportunity to use the sub-modeler in a real life project and show the process of sub-d modeling graphically. It was also an ideal time to demonstrate skills with Adobe InDesign the required application for class.
Davison_first page of first feature article 2 Eeeeeek! The star creature of this imaginary short is introduced with background. I was channeling fifties horror movies in concept. The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1956?) is an inspiration for this ideational spoof. This 4 page piece is also inspired by a surprise feature of my neighborhood near MT. Clare Junction near downtown Baltimore. MD. The surprise feature is the location of a Japanese style pond in the back of a small street that hosts a small Asian park space. The fish in the pond resemble large variegated gold fish-like inhabitants. Eeeeeek! Came out of the pool one day and was adopted by the ThoughtMaster.
Davison _ Porcelain in the Green State 3 Another opportunity to work on real world projects and school projects presented itself in 2006. The 6 porcelain pieces documented here are pieces I created to demonstrate to my students at a local middle school traditional clay works. This was an art project sponsored by the Baltimore National Museum of Ceramic and Fiber Arts as an after school enrichment program. The layout was another project in itself for a school class project at UMUC. The Adobe InDesign project was one of many that allowed me to show case my design work in a class project.
Davison _ back cover for magazine 4 This back cover features a gabardine painting (8’ X 12’) I created for a photographer client in 1989.The car shows the true color of the fabric, fire engine red. The rest of the painting was painted using traditional studio techniques with brush strokes, sponges, painting knives, and air brush. The caption concerning the SFX is used to be consistent with the digital character and scope of the publication. The logo positioned in the upper right hand corner of the cover might be used in the future for my branding. The unique aspect of this project was how I could address all of my design activities in a digital format.
