Navatón

Navatón is a hubless track bicycle concept. It explores the layout possibilities of a frame that houses a hubless wheel. The starting point for the whole design was placing the crank axle on the inside of the rear rim, which is not possible on a conventional frame. That decision inevitably lead to an enormous rear wheel as the contact point to ground had to be pushed back to keep it as close to traditional as possible for optimal handling. In fact, the wheelbase is a couple of centimeters longer than on a typical track bike, resembling that of a modern road bike.

With a chainring-to-cog tooth ratio of 77:11 and an inner-outer sprocket tooth ratio of 123:370, the drivetrain produces a gear of 2,327x. Equipped with a 103cm rear wheel (outer diameter of tyre), the bicycle moves some 7,55 metres with each full revolution of the pedals. This corresponds roughly to a 50:14 or a 47:13 on a regular bicycle fitted with 23mm tyres.
