Community Arts Center in Birmingham, AL
Community Arts Center in Birmingham, AL located near Railroad Park with a goal to encourage revitalization in the area. The materials chosen were selected to allow the most accurate amount of natural light to enter each space. Channel glass, glazing, and brick in a 4" x 4" x 16" monarch size with permeations were entered into the brick wall to allowed controlled daylight to enter the gallery and screen the cafe. The brick patterning that occurred in the gallery walls, cafe walls, and rest of the building coordinated with the patterning of the windows in the channel glass, while at the same time giving each portion of the building its own identity.
