Before & After: Sturdy two-tiered end table gets a bold black & white face lift.

I always hated this style of end table and set out to find the ugliest, sturdiest one I could find cheap at thrift store and see what I could do to make myself like it. The piece is by Ethan Allen and is built quite well. I liked the smooth finish of the wood and figured it would hold up best to heavy use if I just left it wood, so that got a little Restore-a-finish & nothing else. The rest was masked off piece by piece, primed & painted. The black was hand-painted enamel gloss paint and the white was spray painted. Wood appliqués were painted & glued on...they remind me of a fancy frosted cake :-) It's a bold & silly piece that held up to my kids constantly opening and closing it's "lid." A couple years later someone wanted to buy it so I ended up selling it.
