THE ANTLERS Office Conversion Northumberland
This collection of horse stables within the Northumberland Green Belt were converted into offices in 2003 and became home of the Hadrian’s Wall Society until 2014. Following the society’s closure, Greatspace were asked to achieve Change of Use and to sensitively convert the offices into 2 high quality dwellings.
The buildings are arranged as a horseshoe and wrapped around the original equestrian paddock, which has now been adopted as shared external play. The offices were made up of many sub dividing stud partitions and suspended ceilings which kept the true character of the building hidden.
We took the basic components of the stable and carefully deconstructed it to return the building to its original form. By vaulting all of the ceilings, the beautiful timber roof trusses hang over the dramatic double height living spaces.
The rooms have been repositioned within the existing structural grid to provide a more coherent internal layout, making them practical for modern living.
