Homopolar Motor
The ‘Experimental Play’ kit is about the continuation of the ethos of Central Saint Martins beyond the campus walls. It highlights a key outlook of the college to experiment with materials and processes to achieve surprising results. The experiment kit is constructed of simple components including an AA battery, a neodymium magnet, copper wire and a paper balloon which combine to create a simple homo-polar motor. The outcome of the kit isn't revealed until the user has constructed it from the key components.
The kit was designed as part of a brief to produce a 'gift' that reflected Central Saint Martins outlook.
