Self-sustaining Balwadi model - This was a remote research project sponsored by Honeywell and conducted in collaboration with IIT Mumbai. A 'Balwadi' is like a preschool for young children and a sort of coaching center for slightly older kids. This particular Balwadi had a tailoring and screenprinting buisness running in the small space. The current system was limited in scale, profitability and growth. The proposed new system would be self sustaining and would channelize funds back into the school.
Self-sustaining Balwadi model - The system promotes collaboration between different Balwadis in order to tackle the problem of scalability. Each balwadi would specialize in a certain area and could combine their skills on certain projects.
Self-sustaining Balwadi model - There might be only a certain number of preschools required in a slum. This model shows how the new units could specialize in different areas according to the member's expertise to create mutual dependency and value for the entire community. http://www.cranbrookdesign.com/index.php/topics/more/design_versus_innovation_the_cranbrook_iit_debate/
