DFD - Designed for Deconstruction
My senior thesis, University of Cincinnati, DAAP Industrial Design 2019.
DFD is a footwear concept that challenges the typical construction of sneakers in effort to make shoe production more sustainable. These sneakers are not permanently cemented together like normal shoes, but they are still stable under your feet. The absence of glue and cement allow these sneakers to be separated cleanly at the end of their lives.
DFD could be taken further and become a custom shoe system, allowing customers to swap out various components that are damaged, or to simply modify color and material.
