Manual-Solar Hybrid Lawnmower - Australian Design Award Shortlist(2007) Featured in Monument & Lino - Designed in consultation with Victa Lawncare Australia, this conceptual reel-mower employs a solar-battery-electric motor to boost manual effort through a torque sensing system as used on electric bicycles. This means the motor only runs while the mower is being pushed, reducing power consumption and making it safer. The mower is lightweight, compact, low maintenance, easy and economical to use and manufacture and environmentally friendly, producing minimal pollution & noise.
Manual-Solar Hybrid Lawnmower - Research showed that a typical petrol mower running for 30 minutes produces more pollution than an average a car driving 200 kilometres. Manual reel mowers are a simple and environmentally friendly solution, however their capabilities are limited to the users efforts . An existing solution to this is the addition of a battery-powered motor to drive the blades. This concept uses the motor to boost manual effort, only when needed. Modelled in Pro Engineer, rendered in 3D Studio Max.
