Kinetic Hipocodile
Kinetic Crocodile
This was a two week project from kinetics class. We had to make a tool that carries a pingpong ball from one place to another. After working with universal hinges, I now wanted to experiment with some tracks and gears. Here I found some fun mechanisms. I gave a claw to the mechanism and ultimately dressed it up as crocodile.
This was the first time using gears and tracks. It was very reliable since, when assembled, there were no surprise or unexpected movements/flaws. Gears and tracks worked every single time the way it should. At first I intended the top to be closed and all glued up, but the inside track was so fun to watch that I decided to reveal it. Like a grand piano, I gave a hinge at the back and a little pole for the top to stay open. Designing and figuring out movements always takes a lot of trial and error, model making and sketching, but I really enjoy that process and tweaking.
